I usually don’t stay at hotels as fancy, beautiful, and pricey as the new W Atlanta Downtown in Atlanta, Georgia, but when I got the chance, I took it.
The hotel, a new construction, was conveniently located in a wonderful part of downtown Atlanta. The hotel was walking distance to many sights including Centennial Olympic Park and one of my favorites, the Georgia Aquarium.
Here is my review of the W Atlanta Downtown in Atlanta, Georgia:
Overall, the room was quite beautiful with a sleek and sexy decor, modern finishes, dim lighting, and modern metal sculptures. There did seem to be a lot going on everywhere I looked.
When you walk in the room past the bathroom you have a desk, chair, television, mini bar, and closet on the left. On the right was a comfy bed with two nightstands. Near the window was a sofa with a view of downtown Atlanta.
A large window with retractable curtains let in lots of light during the day, but with dark purple walls, a dark gray carpet, and black, brown, and gray accents, the room seemed a little dark. The lighting was also dim which can either be romantic or annoying depending on your needs.
For a couple, the room was quite spacious. If you are staying in the room with more than two people, then space could be a little tight as the bed, sofa, and desk took up a lot of space.
Here is an overview of the room facing the door.
On the left you have your bed while on the right you have a spacious desk and chair allowing you to get work done comfortably.
On the right side near the door was a large entrance area that took up a lot of useless space. I felt like this space could have been used better.
In the middle was the shower. If you are wondering, the glass on the shower was half glass, half frosted glass. So, whoever was in the room could watch you showering. I will get to this issue later when I talk about the shower.
The star of the room was the king sized W Signature Bed with four hypo-allergenic feather pillows.
The bed was slightly firm yet soft and inviting. The 350-thread count linen sheets were amazingly comfortable and velvety.
I slept well. When I woke up in the morning, I felt great and didn’t want to get out of the bed.
On each side of the bed was a nightstand with a light. I really enjoyed the power plugs found at the base of each lamp. With power next to the bed, I was able to plug in my laptop and do work while sitting in the bed.
On the wall, above the desk and mini bar, was a mounted Philips 32 inch plasma television.
Even though I didn’t watch too much television during my stay, I would have expected a larger television in the room, especially for the price I paid for the room.
To the right of the desk and below the television was a mini bar. Inside the small fridge were sodas, energy drinks, bottled water, and alcoholic beverages such as beer, liquor, and wine. Everything inside the mini bar was available for a hefty charge.
Above the mini bar was even more alcoholic drinks (wine and liquor) along with snacks including chips, candy, and gum. Just as with the mini bar, all of these items were available for a charge.
Surprisingly, there were also some adult items for purchase for you and your significant other, if you know what I mean. This could be a little awkward if you were staying in the room with work colleagues.
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the large walk in shower.
As I mentioned earlier, there was a big issue with the shower. In my king bedroom:
1) There was no shower door.
2) The shower was completely surrounded by glass.
This glass shower can be an issue for certain hotel guests.
When you are taking a shower, you will also be giving a show to whoever else is in the room. There was a half glass, half frosted glass wall separating the bedroom from the shower, but you could still see right in. You would think that there would be some sort of curtain, but there was none.
I am guessing most people that stay here are couples, but if you are planning to stay at the hotel with friends or business colleagues, then you might want to pick another hotel or check with the front desk to see if they have any rooms with shower doors.
Inside the shower was a collection of lemon and sage scented Bliss toiletries: conditioning rinse, supershine shampoo, and soapy suds body wash.
I don’t know too much about Bliss toiletries, but from what I have read, they are of high quality and they smelled great.
I didn’t feel ashamed taking the toiletries home with me.
Next to the open glass shower was a small sink area.
The actual sink was tiny, but not an issue for me. Around the sink was plenty of counter top space along with a large glass mirror with two bright lights on each side.
On top of the counter you had more of your Bliss toiletries, glasses, and a bottle of water (for a charge). Below the sink is where you will find your towels.
Just to the right of the sink was the toilet, which was located in its own small room with a door. I had no problem with this except that the room was small and dark with absolutely no decor. The dark purple walls made the space look even smaller and darker.
When you sit down, you only have just enough room to sit. I honestly believe that most airplane bathrooms are bigger.
I also didn’t like that the door opened in towards the toilet. This made the space even smaller, especially when trying to exit.
And we have more purple. The closet was painted in that same dark purple found elsewhere in the room.
This small closet housed movable hangers, an iron, an ironing board, a safe, and a luggage rack.
This was the only closet in the room. If you need more space to store your clothes and other belongings, then you are out of luck.
Next to the window was a gray sofa, more of a modern seating area, which was a great place to sit, relax, have a drink, and enjoy the view out the window.
This was the view from the window of my room.
Not the best view, but not the worst view I have had from a hotel room. The view across the way was of another building and its recreation deck, pool, and parking lot. In the distance, I could get a few glimpses of the downtown Atlanta area.

Conclusion
The W Atlanta Downtown was a beautiful hotel making it a great choice in the downtown Atlanta area.
The room was modern and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the toiletries were great enough to take home. With that said, the room was dark and purple, the lights were dim, and the shower has no door and was see through.
For me, the positives outweighed the negatives. I would not hesitate to recommend staying at the W Atlanta Downtown on your next visit to Georgia.
